Scar Makeup - Learn to Cover and Conceal

So you need a good scar makeup. Mineral makeup is perfect for this. It will look natural, while still concealing those unwanted scars.

To begin, find a brand you like. You will want one that gives good coverage and has a matte finish. You might even enjoy a loose powder concealer, rather than just the loose powder foundation. Either will work, though.

Cleanse the area and pat dry. Apply a good, rich moisture cream to the scar (a natural oil, like Emu Oil, would work well as another option.) Whichever type of product you use, allow that to soak in for about five minutes or until it is no longer tacky to the touch. If it is, just blot dry with a towel, till your skin feels smooth and soft.

Apply a makeup primer to help give greater adhesion. Then select your mineral foundation or concealer. Use a smaller brush like a concealer brush and pick up a small amount of powder with the bristles. Swirl in the lid of the makeup jar to really press the powders into the brush head. Tap off any excess by gently rapping the brush handle onto the lid, with the bristles facing at a slight upward angle.

Next, begin stippling (little up and down taps) the makeup onto the scar area. Apply more than you think it needs, even if it leaves a blob of powder showing.

Next, take a larger brush like a kabuki and dip into the loose powder. Follow the same method as above, where you tap and swirl the brush in the lid, and then tap off any excess. Apply by TAPPING (not swirling like usual) the brush onto the scar and surrounding area, being careful not to disturb the powder you have already layed down. You are just smoothing it all out at this point.

If you need to go back with your smaller brush and touch up a little, do so now. Your scar should be covered and blend pretty nicely with the rest of your skin.

Another little trick is to use a lighter color JUST on the scar, and your regular skin tone color on top and on the rest of your skin with your kabuki. This will create a visual camouflage effect by making the scar disappear.
