WHAT IS IT?

Mineral foundation makeup...what exactly IS it, anyways?

Mineral foundation makeup is a loose powder version of makeup. It covers better than other types of makeup (liquid, stick, etc), while being natural and containing no irritating or pore-clogging ingredients. It stays smooth and creamy-looking all day, without settling into your lines and creases.

It can also come in pressed form and a few companies even have a liquid version. I prefer the loose powder version or an all-natural form of the pressed version, if you can find one.

Normally applied with a kabuki brush for maximum coverage, this powder is easy and quick to apply, requiring no touchups throughout the day.

It is virtually water and sweat-proof, which is great for active people who swim, workout, dance, etc. Yes, it lasts even through swimming.

It gives a very high sunscreen effect too.

Not to mention the price... the normal size jar of mineral foundation (10 grams by weight in a 30 gram jar = full jar) lasts for about 5 months on average. So for a jar that costs about $15, that is approximately 10 cents a day! For flawless, amazing skin... you can't beat that!

The ingredients can vary slightly, but the usual ones you'll see are:

Mica (for slip and silky feel)

Titanium Dioxide (for sunscreen, coverage and whiteness)

Zinc Oxide (for sunscreen, coverage and whiteness)

Iron Oxides or Ultramarines(for color)

Some brands include Bismuth Oxychloride, which gives a slick feel to the makeup. It is not a necessary ingredient and can itch or irritate many people's skin, so I personally don't recommend it.

All these ingredients are blended till smooth in commercial mixing equipment, resulting in a creamy, silky powder that looks like natural skin when applied, and covers all your flaws.

Now keep in mind that all brands are slightly different. Some are more shiny, others are totally matte. Some are thick and cakey, while others are sheer and light.

Without getting into a technical explanation, when formulating minerals, you can go from one extreme to another: Either create a very thick, heavily covering powder that is chalky and dry, or create a very silky, creamy powder that doesn't cover well.

A good formulator finds the perfect balance between the two.

I created my foundations to be beautifully in between.

They offer great coverage, while still having a silky feel. It can be hard to achieve that perfect inbetween balance, but with time and lots of trial and error, it can be done!

If you are one of those people who really want or need super thick, intense coverage, then a mineral concealer is best for you. Those can be applied all over or just for spot coverage under or over your mineral foundation.

WHY YOU'LL LOVE IT

Mineral foundation makeup is the greatest invention EVER!!! Okay, that's stretching it a bit, I know!

But if you've ever dealt with less than satisfactory skin like I have, you'll understand the minute you try it!

No longer do we have to deal with drippy, slimy liquid foundation. Pancake makeup that only breaks our skin out? Kick it out the door!

Forget all those other types of makeup... Mineral Foundation Makeup saves the day.

Okay, more seriously... it really is my favorite type of makeup. If you have ever tried it, I know you feel the same way. People always say that once they try powder minerals, they never go back to "regular" makeup. I know this is true for me!

I never could seem to completely cover my acne with other makeups... and the types of makeup that came close to actually covering my skin blemishes, only made my face break out worse. What an awful cycle.

Until I tried mineral foundation makeup and WOOPPEEE!! It covers incredibly without breaking my skin out any more!!

Now, if you're a newbie to minerals, I highly, strongly and very intensely recommend that you start with either SAMPLES or a STARTER KIT. Really a starter kit is the best way to go, so that you get a nice selection of items to try. Usually a brush will come with it, so you don't have to search one of those out. And often you'll receive items you might not have thought to buy, but you find you love! They are very affordable and so much fun!

Kits also make fabulous gifts if you can't decide what to buy auntie / cousin / sis / mom. Since mineral foundation makeup works on all skin types beautifully, no matter who you give a starter kit to, they are sure to llooovvveee it!

Okay, back to the subject at hand: mineral foundation makeup. Just to give you an idea of how wonderful this type of makeup covers, here are before and after pictures of lil' ol' me, taken a few years ago.

Now keep in mind these pictures were taken on the exact same day. Nothing at all was changed, either physically or on the actual photo, except that mineral foundation was applied.

I used Mineral Basics foundation.

Can you believe that? That is how well mineral makeup covers. I took a REALLY close up shot so that you could REALLY see how it covers. No tricks here! It just simply, beautifully... works.

Now from a normal distance away, your skin will appear to just radiate. Not shine. You'll have just a natural, healthy perk. Or should I say, it will be smooth, creamy and flawless. And isn't that what we all want anyways? Nobody wants to look like they are wearing foundation. We just want to appear as if we have beautiful, flawless skin.

And I'm happy to say that after using minerals for a while, my acne has now virtually cleared up. YAY!
