For traditional weddings, there are only a few main rules to remember. -First of all, your dress will most likely be white, off-white, cream, ivory, ecru or some other pale color. Thus the attention will be mainly on your face, once everyone sees the dress. So you want your makeup to be STUNNING. You can do it yourself if you feel up to it or if money is an issue, you can hire a
bridal makeup artist.
-Keep it simple -Make sure the makeup is long-lasting (mineral makeup is excellent for this!)You don’t want your gorgeous makeup to begin to fade or slide or smear throughout the wedding and reception. This is especially crucial if you are having an outside wedding during the warmer months. Use a foundation with clay in it if possible, OR use a primer or finishing powder with clay or arrowroot powder or cornstarch to help keep everything in place and minimize shine and oil. -Make sure to try the makeup on several weeks in advance to determine how you like it and how it looks in pictures. Take several pictures of yourself in multiple lighting sources (indoor, outdoor…). You don’t want to wear foundation that is too light or you will end up looking ghostly and dry in pictures. -Apply a little more makeup than you normally would for daytime. Use false eye lashes if you like. You want to appear dressy and gorgeous, but not OVER-done. Save the super dramatic makeup looks for AFTER the wedding. :) -I recommend keeping a sampler kit of ALL your bridal makeup items in a small bag somewhere so that you can touch up for photos, the reception, etc. Just in case your lipstick wears off, or you start crying and your eye makeup gets blurry... You need to be able to touch it up, so the rest of the day isn't ruined because of your makeup.
-If you are too pale and need a tan quickly, see here: Bridal Spray Tan -Make sure your makeup, hair and dress all match in style. If you go with a dramatic, ball-room style dress, an under-done face won't look good. Pick your dress out first. You need it ALL to blend, so... Try various hairstyles and bridal makeup looks until you find the perfect match for your dress. EXAMPLES: Larger dress (ballroom, long train, etc): You can go with a sleek hairdo and simple (but well done) makeup application and look stunning. OR you can do your hair bigger as well, with lots of shiny curls everywhere. OR keep your hair simple and sleek and do a bit more intense makeup. You don't want all three aspects to be overwhelming, though. In other words, you don't want a huge dress, huge hair and dramatic makeup. That would be much too loud. Sleeker dress (mermaid, straight, etc): Since your dress is simple, you can go with a larger hair style AND more dramatic makeup if you like. Or you can keep it all simple. You have the most style options here. MAIN RULE TO REMEMBER: Whatever you do, make SURE you have your EXACT makeup plan and supplies intact weeks before your wedding arrives. You most certainly don't need any more freak out moments than you are probably having already, so plan in advance! Prepare well! And make sure to have a PLAN B should something go wrong.
